Stick a Pin in it

Nesting has taken over my life.

I get up and organize. I sit down and think about organizing. I play with Brecken and organize. I go to sleep and I dream of organizing.

Dear Martha would be so proud of my homemaking skills.

I, however, forced myself to stop organizing on Saturday (it almost killed me) to spend some time making a few embellished shirts and onesies for Punk and Punkette.

Delia from Delia Creates has a fun tutorial on how to use your kids artwork to decorate their clothes--it's a definite one to check out.

Within that same post she also shows readers how to use paper punches to create freezer paper stencils. It was such a fun idea that I had to make a few as well.

I have done quite a few projects with freezer paper in the past but her idea was by far the easiest...in case you were wondering.

 1. Always pre-wash onesies before embellishing them. These little guys are shrinkers and you don't want to ruin all your hard work!

2. I used the Martha Stewart butterfly punch to cut butterflies out of freezer paper.

3. I then laid the shiny-side down and ironed each row of butterflies onto the onesie.

4. My favorite fabric paint. This color has a pearl hue to it so it made the butterflies sparkle.

5. Allow the paint to dry for 1-4 hours depending on how many coats you paint on (I used a foam brush to apply the paint).

6. Once finished use a towel/cheese clothe/or a piece of fabric and lay it over the top of the onesie, then iron so the color will "set in."

I got a little carried away and decided to make ten different shirts.

I know--I have a problem.

I haven't accomplished much this week.

I shouldn't saythat--I didn't accomplish much inside the house this week.

I finally finished our new headboard and foot board;  which then fell over in the garage, luckily nothing broke. I did, however, have to "mend" a few cracks and clean up an entire bucket of paint thinner that managed to cover half the garage.

freak.

I also finished painting the credenza for the living room. It turned out great except now I am having a difficult time finding handles with screw holes that 4.5'' apart.

Any suggestions?

So, while I might not be able to show any fun or exciting projects from Pinterest here are some of the great "Pinspirations" that were linked up last week!

Stick a Pin It: Kids Room

posted on: Wednesday, February 8, 2012

I've been bit by the nesting bug early.

Cleaning. Purging. Folding. Organizing. You name it--I've been doing it.

I've also been scouring, and scouring, and scouring online sources for baby room ideas.

Long ago I made the decision that I would put Brecken and the baby in the same room. Even though she will be in our room for a few months I want Brecken to get use to the idea of someone else taking up residency in his space.

I want to create a room that infuses a little bit of boy and a little bit of girl into it--I don't want the room to be so neutral that it turns to a "blah" space--but I want to incorporate punches of color that give the room some flare.

Here are some ideas that are inspiring me for their new room.

Incorporating barn doors into their room. We live in Montana, it would totally be legit.

Creating a wall with highlights of each of their lives.

The tree is cute, but I am loving the chevron chair--bold patterns are in, right?!

Check out Prudent Baby for a great tutorial on how to make a duvet cover for any bed--including a toddler size.

Yes, I will be making matching bedding for my lil' monkeys.

A great FREE printable to put in their room.

A fun photo wall.

Learn how to make DIY crib sheets!

I have high hopes of making the cutest sheets for my little munchkin.

I just love these colors--the wall especially. Think Brecken can get away with coral in his room?!

Matching stripped bedding? I think so.

Let the chaos begin.

Stick a Pin in it 5

Over the last year, I have been searching for the perfect piece to put in our living room.

Currently, we have our television sitting on an old trunk, it's a great look and all, but I have other uses for the trunk. So for the longest time I've had a vision of a long dresser with multiple drawers to store: movies, controllers, and nic-naks, while also housing the telly on top.

When I found this beauty I wrangled my way into getting it for cheap.

When I say cheap, I mean dirt. cheap.

I kind of robbed the thrift store, but hey a good deal, is a good deal.

When I brought it home, I ran into the house excited and such and told Hunk that he had to come see the awesome dresser that I found.

His first words when he saw it, "It's a credenza, not a dresser."

Obviously he's been holding out on me, I didn't know that under that deep layer of number crunching and accountant talk actually laid dormant a bona fide interior decorator.

He will regret the day....

;)

Here are some of the pieces that I found on Pinterest that are inspiring me.

Stick a Pin in it: Sweet Pulled Pork Knock-Off

posted on: Wednesday, January 25, 2012

This morning I stumbled out of bed wanting to throw together a post I  finished last night and it wouldn't let me add additional photos--I begged and pleaded, but to no avail.

So between my blogger debacle and Punk smashing blueberries in the carpet I felt that I needed to calm my nerves with a Dr. Pepper.

Thanks, Doc you always know how to make a girl feel better.

;)

Have you ever eaten at a Cafe Rio?

It's a fun little Mexican/Southwestern eatery that boasts itself on mouth watering flavors and a dish to satisfy almost palette.

We Montana (aka Bozeman) folks don't believe in being up-to-date on the latest and greatest in the culinary cuisine so I usually have to wait until I go to Great Falls or to Utah to devour a Cafe Rio dish.

So when we do have a craving for something "exotic" it requires the use of knock-off cooking.

My cousin found a great recipe for Cafe Rio's famous cilantro ranch dressing and after searching I was also able to find a fun recipe for their sweet pulled pork.

The menu of choice last night was the Cafe Rio Sweet Pork Salad with some fun substitutions.

I found a great recipe on Pinterest from a cute blog called Favorite Family Recipes.

They broke down the meal into easy steps with directions on how to make sweet pulled pork, cilantro lime rice, and cilantro ranch dressing.

Delish my friends, delish.

The recipe was initially for a pulled pork salad but we decided to put our meal in homemade hard taco shells.

Super easy and quick, and totally worth it.

Thanks for stopping by, and if you happen to cook a great knock-off meal I would love to hear about it!

Stick a Pin in it: glass etching

posted on: Wednesday, January 18, 2012

 Howdy Ho!

Welcome to another week of "Stick a Pin in it."

Each Wednesday I highlight a project I did during the week using inspiration gained from Pinterest, hence "pinspiration."

This week I took a fun idea from 7th House on the Left (a super cute DIY Home blog...a must to check out). Originally, their idea used frosted vinyl on a door, I was more inspired to take vinyl and use it to etch my name into my baking dishes.

I don't do much baking, but personalized dishes sounded fun...
For this project you will need:
Silhouette Cameo (or another cutting machine of choice)
Vinyl

I designed each bake dish on my Silhouette Cameo, once I had the right dimensions I then printed (or cut) out my design then I laid each design on the back side of my baking dish.

***VERY Important***
For aesthetic purposes I have my designs going from right-to-left so you can see what they look like. But actually I cut out the design with the words backwards so that when you look in the dish you can read it properly.

Capiche?

If you want a great tutorial on how to use vinyl and the Silhouette visit these lovely ladies.

Once I put the etching cream over the glass I let it sit for 15-20 minutes then I washed it off and voila!
For this dish I used:
Fonts: Honey Script and Levenim MT
Bunting: 3 banners by Silhouette

For this dish I used:
Fonts: Honey Script and Geosanslight
Polk-a-dots: medium circle pattern by Silhouette

Enjoy!

Also, if you sent me an email wanting a Pinterest invite and still haven't got one yet please email me again...last week I got inundated with emails so I may have missed it. Sorry folks :)

Stick a Pin in it: 2

posted on: Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Hey friends!

Welcome to my weekly series, Stick a Pin in it. Each week I showcase an idea that I found via Pinterest and I either replicate it or use it as inspiration for a project.

I also provide a link party at the end so that you can link up your fab "pinspirations" too.

Kind of fun.
Last week I posted the above pictures to prove to future generations that I can master a hairstyle other then the french braid.

I don't know why I have always had a difficult time making a hair bun--it always seems to look like a bird nest on top of my head.

Not very flattering, but on a positive note it does usually give this 5'2'' frame of mine an extra few inches.

I did, however, find a few usual tutorials for making "the bun." If you are having troubles too, hopefully these lovely ladies can help you out.

And here is a great video from Sydney, she is a master. She won't let you down...promise...

And here is my favorite pinspiration from the link party!

I went to school in Russia so of course when I saw her matroyshka dolls I was instantly drawn in.

Thanks for all the links ladies!
