ten useless facts plus one.

Have you seen that viral post going around Facebook? You know the one where you get a random number and then you tell that many things about yourself. If you're on Facebook I'm sure you avoided liking at least 50 posts....give or take.

Here's ten utterly useless facts.

1//I get nervous when I'm not talking. Kind of like I have to be talking or else things get awkward and then things get really awkward anyway because I'm usually talking when I'm not suppose to.

2//I once dreamt I was married to Eli Manning. The following week he won the Super Bowl. Coincidence? I think not. (No worries John, your man candy job is safe).

3//I have a thing for chapstick and colorful vintage books and globes AND shoes.  I also have a thing for ugly sweaters. Isn't this shirt from Skip N' Whistle awesome? Ugly sweaters year around they said! I agree. Basically, what I'm trying to say is I have a lot of "things." John would whole-heartedly agree.

4//I always wanted to be the karate kid. still do. it's weird I know. But if that doesn't pan out I would like to go back to law school.

5//I like to cook, but these hands are useless when it comes to baking.

6//I once met the Russian version of Oprah...or so they say.

7//Restlessness is commonplace for me. I always have this nagging feeling like I'm missing out on a party or event. It's always been that way. A life of travel  would be ideal, but I married a homebody so I'm sure you can imagine how that worked out.

8//Waffles and pancakes taste like crap. Along with cantaloupe.

9//I have always wanted to live on a street with sidewalks. When it finally it happened I missed gravel roads. go figure.

10//I have a thing for food too. Good food. Food that tells a story and not only presents itself with love but you can tell it was made with love. yeah, that's that type of food I like. Obviously, McDonalds doesn't fall under this realm, but my favorite bar does, it's delish.

11// I don't follow rules or even my own rules.

Hey. It's also CyberMonday and SkipN'Whistle is offering 20% off from now until Christmas. They have some stellar ugly sweaters and shirts...think dinosaurs-meet-Santa. Just use promocode: SANTA

A post about printing and such...

Folks, it's getting serious around here. Brecken's birthday is sneaking up on us and it's kind of a big deal for more than one reason. Mainly, we just love our spit ball of fire and we always seem to make a birthday spectacular of sorts for him. It's really the kick start to a three-month non-stop party that includes: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, more birthdays, and a few other celebrations here and there. whew. To say the least, we like to cel-a-brate.

And what type of birthday would it be if we didn't pull out all the stops with a one-of-kind invite. Recently I was approached by an online printing company, Signazon.com to review their company. And luck would have it that they had just what a needed for creating the perfect invitation. Guys, not only do they offer exceptional customer service but they're a go-to destination for everything from wedding banners to customizable stationery. And if that doesn't seem to fit your fancy they have a full line of banners for any occasion, because when it all comes down to it a banner will make any soiree that much better.

More than anything I was impressed by their quality as in high-resolution-without-a-stitch-of-graininess-quality. Yeah, they're that good. Annnnd did I mention their online card/banner design program? It's kind of like Photoshop, a little like Illustrator and a whole lot of fun to play around in--believe me, you'll want to try it out.

Anyway, check them out. They're rad, super fun to work with, and they provide excellent products and customer service. A simple one-stop-shop. I promise.

Tiny Prints Inspiration for a Little Boy Room

Recently I was contacted by Tiny Prints to create an inspiration board using one (or in my case two) of their designs as a spring board of creativity for Brecken's room makeover. The quintessential rustic vibe that is now making a comeback is so fresh and inviting (and manly I might add) and seems so natural for my little boy. And maybe I'm a bit biased because I live in Montana and all-thing-rustic are run of the mill around here, but the thought of little boys huddled under a tent scheming about secret adventures while playing wildly with little bows and colorful arrows may hands down be the cutest site ever.

And at the root of it all I'm a wife to an outdoorsman and a Momma to a boy obsessed with a slingshot so a room with a father's touch and a young boys obsession only seemed fitting for the men of my house, wouldn't you agree?

Now if only I could get John that excited about a space just for me and my over flowing ideas. A girl can wish...

Hair and what not

posted on: Thursday, August 8, 2013

In my next life I may write a book about my hair. Yes, my hair! Why you ask? Oh because my hair has more drama than the girls in a sorority house (no offense to my fun loving sorority sisters (best friend included)).

The story would be a nail biter. It would be a roller coaster of events full of the ups-and-down of a lonely girl who suffers from abnormally curly/frizzy hair who is in the search of the perfect products and tools to help bring life back to her once wavy and shimmering hair. Naturally, the story would reach a climatic epicenter where I would be at odds with myself, particularly with my hair, and near the cusp of breaking (which in this case would mean chopping). But then out of the blue, or dare I say in the most serendipitous of manner, a hero would swoop in and save the day.

And just like that or as if my prayers had been answered a real-life hair Fairy Godmother would bring tidings of good joy (and locks of naturally straight hair)!

Great story, right?

So here's the ditty. I was asked to try the Hana professional hair straightener and it is wonderful. purely wonderful. And I don't say that lightly. Unlike many of the professional straighteners I've owned (which is  five and counting) this one has by far exceeded my expectations. You know how you go into salon and pay really close attention to how your hair stylist does your hair and you even go as far as to by the same products and tools with the hopes of repeating that same blown out affect after you leave. And then it takes you nearly five days to wash the gorgeous locks because you know, and with tears in your eyes, that your hair will never look that luscious and beautiful again (or at least not for another eight weeks).Well that my friends happens to me every time. without fail. Even when I  buy the same products/same straightener/same brush/same ju-ju, it just never looks like the red-carpet hair for days earlier.

But, and I say this with a "Hallelujah!" this straightener is the closest I have ever gotten to actually getting the perfect look without having to pay the salon price! It has multiple adjustable temperature settings which is a definite bonus for course frizzy hair, because let's face it, curly hair needs some added punch to give it that naturally straight look. It's sleek look and slender feel makes it easy to use and while I am not always the best proponent of safety it has this gargantuan cord so I can simultaneously peer out the bathroom door to yell at Brecken (which never happens, but if it did...) while still managing to curl my hair at the same time. Do I hear amazing multi-tasking? yes.

So if you are in the market for a straightener that's worth every penny, while also providing stellar straight locks (as well as curly too), this guy is the golden ticket!

Thanks Misikko, you truly are my Hair Fairy Godmother.

Maranda Lee Handbags

posted on: Monday, February 20, 2012

Before I had Brecken I was naive when it came to picking out the right diaper bag.

I'll admit it, I was vain and wanted something pretty not practical.

After about a week of stressing over never being able to find a binkie or my keys I finally resorted back to the (practical) diaper bag that Hunk had bought me.

He's one smart cookie...

I used my favorite JJ Cole diaper bag until it was torn, missing zippers, and had holes in the base.

Since then I have managed to get away with an over sized purse to carry around all the necessities from Punk.

But with a new baby vastly approaching (can you believe it?) I decided it was time to get myself accustomed to a diaper bag again.

My dear friend Maranda, owner of a darling etsy shop called Maranda Lee, made me the perfect bag.

Maranda made me the gorgeous Emma Messenger Bag for our new arrival, and as a mother of two she knows what every woman needs to remain organized (at least in their diaper bag).

;)
She's perfected her bags, which now can boast everything from built-in key ring holders to cell phone pockets.

And even more importantly are the small touches that she adds to her bags such as O rings on the messenger handle instead of D rings.

Have you ever owned a bag that has a D ring on the handle? It seems like the handle is always slipping and the ring never stays in place.

Her O ring makes the bag hang across your body without any nagging.
Maranda's bags also offer lots of space.

The bag I received offered six built-in pockets, three of which had elastic binding on them--perfect for two bottles and diapers.

The inside of each bag has plenty of room to store books, an ipad, snacks, my wallet, and even my DSLR camera.

Diaper bag. Purse. Camera bag. This bag can hold it all!

Stay tuned because later this week there will be a fun giveaway from Maranda's shop that you will not want to miss!

In the meantime, make sure to check out Maranda's shop to see what other amazing products she has to offer as well as her facebook page and website for great promotions and discounts!

Thank you Maranda!

And we have a winner for the UPrinting Giveaway-congrats Carolyn G

Sponsor Spotlight

Happy Weekend!

We have some big plans in store for the next few days--ice fishing, girls day out, shopping, basketball.

Okay, so maybe we don't have big plans, but I do have high hopes of getting out of bed and putting on jeans--so that is kind of a big deal these days. Emphasis on "big"....

I also have some big ole' projects that are still in the finishing phrase--the light is at the end of the tunnel. I see it, I know I do. I know I do!

************

Did you notice there is now a new sponsor crashing it at Spunky Junky. Meet Mandy. She's real. She's fun. She's a Mom/Wife/Chauffeur/Doctor/Coach/Line-Item Cook/Interior Decorator--the usual for most moms, right?

She is also from Montana, ahhh girl of my heart. But she traded in her western ways for a new fab life back east--can't blame her, when the hippest news in town involves the Wheat and Barley Committee Annual Meeting a change of scenery is necessary.

;)

She just started a fab blog called Cre8ive Motives where she shares her ins/out of home projects, provides great tutorials and tips, and also shows us what's new and hip in the world of interior design.

Fun, right?

Check her out, give her some love--because that's what we do around here!

Keep it real.

Welcome Sparrow Fabrics!

Isn't it great when you meet someone who shares your same obsessions?

Hunk usually says that when I find people with similar likes to my own that they're often enablers of my bad habits. I can live with that because if you love something (a LOT) why not share that love with others?

eh?

One of my favorite obsessions is fabric.

I love walking through quilt shops and softly grazing my hands over the rows and rows of fabrics.
I love the sound of new fabric being cut into yards.
I love the smell of a fresh bolt of fabric being removed from its' plastic caccoon.
I love taking home nice tidy piles of folded fabric and imaging all the beautiful projects that I will create.

I thought I was obsessed until I met Maranda.

Maranda's obsession with fabric would make even the most elite fabric conoissseur jealous. Seriously, this chick has crazy style when it comes to buying not only the best but the highest quality fabrics.

Recently, Maranda opened a new shop called Sparrow Fabrics.

Last week I was able to go get the tour of her studio.

She has bolt after bolt of some of the most amazing fabrics!

I seriously could have stayed in her studio for hours but Punk had other plans in mind. Most of them included running amock in her studio.

Bad Boo Boo.

She had a wide array of fabrics from the Joel Newberry Heirloom Collection which in my opinion is one of the hottest lines out there.

And my opinion often becomes fact. hahaha. Well, in my house that statement works ;)
She also has a large selection of organic fabrics that are not only cute but safe for the planet! Now isn't that a wonderful idea?!

We actually used these organic fabrics for a wonderful photo shoot we did earlier this week. Kind of giddy to show you pictures but I think I should wait for the magazine article to come out first!
I seriously can't get enough of Heirloom Collection? Isn't it gorgeous?

And as a tiny little side note. Maranda has the coolest shop ever where she uses all these wonderful fabrics to making the most amazing bags ever.

Now that is a fact ;)

And if you are really ambitious or if you want to check out Maranda's full line of fabric, believe me, she has tons! Stop in the studio and say "Hi!"

While there pick up a bag or two. Try on a few dresses..
Buy some baby shower gifts or presents

....and don't forget to pick up a few patterns to make your own beautiful masterpieces!
Now everyone blow a few kisses in Maranda's direction and welcome her back (again) to the Spunky Junky family!

We love you Maranda!
