Cinco De Mayo and a little bit of Tangled...

posted on: Thursday, May 5, 2011

Have you seen Tangled yet? Hill-arious, right?
That horse cracks me up.
And that smolder look that Flynn Rider whips out, funny huh?
Well, I have some sad news for ya.

He copied it...from this guy.

But that's okay, it was still a great movie! Cheer up friends, even though Flynn is a thief...and a copycat there is much to celebrate today!

Happy Cinco De Mayo!

I have actually only celebrated the blessed 5th day of May once.....
...and it happened to be while I was studying abroad in Russia.

Not really a big holiday there, not sure why? hmmm.
But these guys sure knew how to party like it was 1995.

Ay Caramba!

So whip out those party pants, turn on some Reggaeton, down yourself a (virgin) margarita, and help celebrate Mexico's independence day with style!

Life is better with Spunk...

posted on: Wednesday, May 4, 2011

Remember last week's challenge? Eat at a new restaurant or try a new recipe.

Well I fell in love last weekend and it happens to be with a hamburger.

I shall explain...

When we go out of town our trips are usually planned around where we "need" to eat.

When in Denver we hit up Jim n' Nicks
While passing through Livingston we stop in at the Rib and Chop House
When we head home we go to the Buckhorn Bar
Whenever we are in a city that has Panda Express we have to stop. Hunk needs his Orange Chicken fix--it's a love like no other.
At Cabelas we always pick up fudge--mint for me, orange for Hunk.
While in Utah I have to go to Artic Circle for fries and to the Purple Turtle for their burgers.

Sadly, I didn't make it to the Purple Turtle this trip. But by some divine power we got lost in Idaho Falls while trying to find Chick-fil-A and we ended up at Five Guys Burgers and Fries.
Pure awesomeness happened when I bit into that burger.

Love. Juicy, sweet, grease drippin' love.

It was the best burger ever.

Not only was the burger perfect, but the fries was grease saturated sticks of heaven. Yes, I am a greasy, soft fry lover.

It was so amazing that I think my burger and fries meal may have beat out  Rodizio Grill for the best food of the weekend.

*gasp*

Hunk has also been in a hamburger coma since his experience with Five Guys Burgers. I sometimes catch his gaze wandering and I then ask him if he is thinking about the infamous burger and his reply is always a forelorn, "yes."

I think we may have to make a regular stop in Ammon when we head to Utah from now on so we can get our hamburger fix.....

So how did the food challenge go for you?

********************************************

Now, onto this week's challenge. Remember how I mentioned that sometimes the challenges would be geared towards helping others? Well this is one of those weeks.

For this week's challenge deliver flowers to someone special.

That person could be your mom, sister, cousin, grandma, friend, neighbor, hair stylist, partner in crime, mail lady, favorite bank teller, Walmart greeter, or just that special person who has been on your mind all week.

With Spring finally starting to pop it's head out to play doesn't it seem like a perfect time to brighten someone's day with some beautiful flowers?

Happy May!

Tutorial: The Ten Minute Party Apron

posted on: Monday, May 2, 2011

Yeah, this is an apron you can party in.....

Well, technically it is an apron that a two year old can party in, but I am sure you can make one to fit yourself.

For Kam's reception she had the little girls walk around and wait the tables. To make the job seem more fun she had them wear cute aprons.
My Mom,with her amazing skills, whipped out ten of these darlings in less than 30 minutes and her design is so simple.
To make your own party apron:

*Cut out a square piece of fabric. Make sure to round the edges.
*Serge all the edges
*On the top edge of the fabric you are going to create a ruffle. To do this, turn your sewing machine to the longest length, and then make the tension very loose. Then sew a stitch across the top of the fabric (preferably below the serge stitch).
*Then pull the thread at one end to create a ruffle.
*Cut a piece of ribbon three feet long for the sash.
*Now sew the ribbon to the fabric piece
*Once finished  tie a bow using the left over sash ribbon.
*Finally, hand stitch the bow to the apron.
Now grace your favorite princess with a cute new party apron!

Seriously, this will take T minus 10 minutes.

Pinky promise.

My advice to you.

Instead of having a sign in book at the reception, Kambrie and Joel opted for business cards that guests could write advice to the happy couple.

I never made it to the table (sorry).

Before I go on I need to fill ya'll in. In my family when someone gets married my Aunt Kath makes them a quilt. Each family then makes a quilt square to go on the blanket. The squares are fun--some of pictures, others have funny anecdotes, and then there are those that have advice.

I opted for giving my lil' sis advice and this is what our quilt square said:

Always
Fight
Naked.
        -JH&B

That's it. buahahaha.

Believe me I have tried to fight naked, and I have ended up having to put my clothes back on so I could actually get through the argument. TMI???

I digress.

So here is my more serious advice to Kambrie (and I guess to anyone else that may be married/getting married)....

1. You are always going to wish you had a bigger house, more money, less stress, and more vacation time. Just remember to enjoy "now," because when it is over you'll wish you have savored those times.

2. There's no "how to guide to marriage." Sorry. We are all just wingin' it. What may work for me in my marriage may not work for you. However that is the joy of marriage--learning to grow together.

3.  Compromise will be your worst and best friend. Learn the difference between needs and wants--sometimes what we want isn't what we need.

4. Life is tough, marriage is harder. Learn to fight objectively and know that no matter what happens at the end of the day you still love each other.

5. Do I really need to say more???
6. There is no more "I" and "you." Now, it is "us."
Learn to make decisions for us.

7. This is true love...

8. the conundrum of love...

9. Marriage is about the good and the bad--
cuddles on the couch, best friend for life, hugs for no particular reason, someone to come home to, waking up in someone's arms. And it is also about toilet paper put in the wrong way, snoring, dirty dishes, clothes on the floor, and who gets the remote control.

Love the good, the bad, and the ug-lay!

10. Perfection....

11. The three best words to never stop saying....

Now go find that honey of yours and give 'em one of those big smooches like on the movies....
