Feature Friday

posted on: Friday, May 13, 2011

"Wow."

Is all I have to say about blogger. For those of you that don't have a blog account, blogger has been shut down for two days. No logging in, no leaving comments, no writing posts, nothing.

Now that I have finally been to get onto my account I am starting to write a post of my fave projects from last week.  BUT, that post won't be up until tomorrow....hope that is fine with all ya'll.

I know this is kind of lame but it was kind of a tramatic day. Four pokes in the arm, two shots in the @$$,  one 'um lady exam, and five hours in the hospital has kind of drained my desire to do anything today.

Plus I am havin' an EPIC garage sale tomorrow at my house. So if ya'll are in the Bozeman area stop by...55 Thatch Wood Lane--no stalkers please.

;)

 TGIF!

Life is Better with Spunk

posted on: Wednesday, May 11, 2011

How are ya'll enjoying Life is Better with Spunk? Did you remember to deliver flowers to someone special?

For Mother's Day Hunk and I gave flowers to each of our mothers. It was a real treat because usually we are not lucky enough to have both of them in town.

A long, long time ago I told Hunk that flowers were worthless because they die. I really shouldn't have said it because now he holds it over my head everytime I say, "Why don't you bring me home flowers anymore?"

Yes, I do love bouquets of flowers (still...hint, hint), but I think there is just something magical about potted flowers. I love watching plants blossom over the summer until they reach a point where they busting out of the pot with flowery excitement!

Hunk's Mom still has a hydrangrea that we gave her two years ago, she has a green thumb--I do not.

Even though Hunk doesn't buy bouquets that often he did surprise me this Mothers Day with an orchid.  I have come to realize that he is not one for making huge gestures of love--instead he opts for doing small acts of kindness which seem even more sincere and heartfelt.

He is kind of crazy about me, which works out well for both of us because I am kind of crazy about him too.

'nuf of the lovey stuff--now on to this week's challenge...
This week's challenge is to visit a park.

It could be a national park, your neighborhood park, or even an amusement park!

Have fun -- I can't wait to hear about your adventures!

And there I was, knee deep in acrylic paint....

posted on: Tuesday, May 10, 2011

Have you ever had an amazing idea for a project? Like so amazing that you thought is would rock the creative world?

Well, I once had an amazing idea.

It turned out to be not so amazing.

It was more of a crash n' burn project.

I'll explain...

A few months ago I wanted to make my own milk glass. However, I wanted the vase to still look "glassy" so I decided I would paint the inside of a few vases with acrylic paint, which would make the outside still glossy and glass-like.

So I armed myself with ten vases and three large bottles of barn white acrylic paint. I began by squirting the paint into the bottom of each vase, and then as as artist would do I started to rolled it around the inside making sure to put a nice white coat over the entire surface.

I patted myself on the back for a job well done and went up stairs to treat myself to a bubbly root beer float.

Didn't you know that all achievements need to be rewarded with a root beer float?
In the morning I went downstairs to look at my beauties and this is what I saw.

Holy *#$&@. What happened?

My beautiful faux milk glass vases were no more.

During the night the white paint slid off the side of the glass and found a peaceful resting spot in the bottom of the vase.

*blehk*

I poked, I prodded, I examined, I even tried another coat, but everytime the same thing happened. The paint took the jolly o' ride to the bottom.

Since that distasterous morning the vases have found a new home in a dark corner of my basement. There I don't have to be reminded of my utter failure.

But don't cry my friends, this story does have a happy ending.

About a week ago I got a sweet email from Erin of Beauty and the Beach (catchy, huh)?

She explained that she had a great tutorial that she would love to share with Spunky Junky readers.

When I opened the tutorial I saw...
...this. The answer to my prayers.

Hallelujah!

She had her own tutorial for painting glass bottles that didn't involve a nice painty sludge at the bottom of the jar.

Her tutorial is amazing my friends--you must see it to believe it~

And her pictures are pretty awesome too.
I would hate for ya'll to miss out on this opportunity to meet my Erin, so head on over there and say, "Hi!"

While you are there check out her amazing skills. Seriously, this chicka was meant to be behind a camera.
And what do you think of her little girl? Isn't she just the cutest thing ever?

Thanks Erin for the great tutorial, I think it is now time that I resurrect my poor helpless bottles.

Btdub, how is this week's Life is Better with Spunk challenge going? You only have one day left!!!

Mom this is for you.

I wish my Mom would have told me about all the sacrifices that were included with motherhood.
She always made raising four kids under the age of five seem so easy.

She sewed multiple dresses,
stayed up late finishing school projects,
helped us paint our rooms,
taught us about garage selling,
let us wear MC Hammar pants and neon shirts,
never admitted the truth about Santa Claus,
listened to our stories about our boyfriends,
taught us to say our prayers,
designed extravagant Halloween costumes,
helped with the ACT's
spray painted my first car,
helped achieve girl (boy) scout badges,
came to sporting events to scream loudly... and filmed all eight laps of the two mile,
baked our wedding cakes,
sang to us in bed,
wiped away our tears,
drove us to college,
taught us to forgive,
made us hug,
sent us care packages,
built homemade parade floats,
let us have hamsters, goats, chicken, horses, dogs, cats, cows, gerbils, fish, boyfriends....
baked school cookies,
helped us find our own confidence,
and always loved us.

It wasn't until I became a mom that I a finally had a glimpse into my Mom's sacrifices.
And, even though my life is now inundated with teething, squeaking toys, sleep deprivation, unrolled toilet paper, diapers, bruises, Baby Einstein, diarrhea, childproof locks, Finding Nemo, runny noises, Pirates Booty, cardboard books, sippy cups, ba-ba's, banging pans, late nights, throw up, and band aids....

I know that with every bump and bruise there will also be a ten gut busting giggles, tender hugs, gleeful gibber-gabbering, waddling runs, warm cuddles, endless pic-a-boo games, and slobbering kisses.

Thank you Mom for your unwavering love. You're a rock star.

Love you.
