Once I had cleaned and dried the plate I then applied enamel paint that I picked up from Johanns. I made sure to buy paint specific for ceramics. Once I had painted the plate I then baked it in the oven for 30 minutes.
Important little fact: don't be like me and open the oven door while the ceramic is baking...the acid from the paint will burn the hello goodness out of your eyes. Also, once the plate finishes baking, make sure you leave it in there to cool.
I then put the "new" piece in our living room. Purdy, huh?
Plate: Free

Your blog looks great! My first time here as I searched for ceramic painting information.. I am getting ready to start my painting project soon. Thanks for sharing! I have bookmarked your blog and will be checking in again! Have fun with your projects! Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, a very pretty plate. Looks so good! :-)
ReplyDeleteHI..have a question...is the painted plate food safe...can one serve cookies on it without the paint releasing nasty toxins...lol. I ask because I am searching like a crazy woman for food-safe paint for plates and bowls. I want to paint the inside so the paint has to be safe for food coming in contact with it. Many thanks and warmest regards, Karen Meer - MADAME Whimsey
