BO{o} Blocks

posted on: Monday, October 4, 2010

So I really love Halloween. I am not into gory, creepy, or skeleton like things. And did I mention I hate scary movies. Yes, hate, loathe, distrust. Maybe, not distrust. But any scary movie is just about as bad as me in a cave full of snakes. Kill me now.

Sooo, what I do love about this time of year is the leaves changing colors, the chance to dress up and make a fool out of myself, carmel corn, chili, soup, the excitement of football season. Well I guess I love fall just as much as Halloween. And since I was stuck in the hospital last Halloween I am getting oober excited for this year.

I love scrap wood pieces. I have a whole stack in the garage that I am sure my hunk would love to burn them.

But in rare cases he actuallly values when I put them to good use...case in point: Boo Blocks!

For this project you will need Halloween scrapbook paper, blocks of wood, sand paper, black paint, Mod Podge, two paint brushes, and black ink or a distressing kit. Note: don't buy wood. Go by any construction site and I am sure they will give you scraps. If they don't, well mean people suck.

Make sure your wood pieces are brushed off. Once they are clean you can paint them. Second note: this is one of the rare occassions where I don't use primer. I like to see the grain of the wood come through the paint, it helps with the distressed look.

Also, on the front portion of the wood blocks paint only an inch or so around the front...why? Because the paper will cover the front, so no need to waste paint.

Your pieces should like look these once they are painted and have been give adequate time to dry.

Once the paint dries measure the paper so it is a bit smaller than the front of the blocks. Then Mod Podge the paper to the front.

A Cricut is not necessary, but it does make life a lot easier. I used the Cricut to cut out BO{O}, which I then Mod Podged to the front.

Once the paper has been attached to the front use a distressing kit or if you don't have one use black chalk and a dark ink pad to distress the corners of the paper. Once the ink dries use the sandpaper to "age" the corners of the block.

Enjoy!
